The Distinguished lecture, given by the Aziz Foundation Professor of Islamic Studies Dr. Timothy Winter (also known as Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad), is now available to view.
The lecture ‘How Islamic is ‘Islamic Studies’? The Troubled History of an Academic Discipline’ took place on Monday 19 November 2018 at Senate House, University of London.
The lecture addresses the questions: How can Islamic educational institutions address the needs of Muslim students, whilst developing the critical thinking essential to rigorous theological scholarship? How do we deliver an education that draws on our British and Islamic heritage to produce scholarship that provides a renewal of Islamic ideas for our contemporary context?
The inaugural Lecture is part of the Aziz Foundation’s Muslim Leadership Development Programme (MLDP). The MLDP aims to develop exceptional thinkers and leaders capable of guiding Muslim communities in modern Britain and contributing to British society as a whole.
