Sumayyah El-Gindy

I am a multimedia artist and curator from Manchester. My practice focuses on themes of remembrance and ritual and exploring how the cultural imaginary informs our beliefs and histories. 

Since graduating I have worked in galleries, co-run an artists’ collective and received a grant from The Arts Council England to undertake a project in Egypt.  

These experiences have helped me discover my passion for visual storytelling and curation as a mediating factor between art and audience. 

I look forward to undertaking my masters in Art Gallery and Museum Studies at the University of Manchester, continuing to build on my degree, and developing my curatorial experience and industry knowledge.  

This scholarship provides me with the resources to develop my professional skills and gives me the chance to work in established institutions where Muslims are underrepresented.
