I graduated with First Class Honours in Aerospace Engineering from Queen Mary University of London, where my dissertation focused on making AI predictions easier for people to understand and trust. This showed me how opaque algorithms can quietly discriminate, for example against applicants with Muslim names in hiring processes, without anyone being able to prove it.
The MPhil in Data Intensive Science at Cambridge will build my skills in statistics and machine learning so I can work on AI and understand why and how this kind of bias happens, rather than let it stay hidden.
