Prior to reverting, my views of Islam and Muslims were largely shaped by exposure to what I saw on television. I know first-hand the power and influence media can wield in shaping our perceptions.
Through undertaking my Master's in film, Television and Moving Image, I intend to enhance my knowledge in respect to the craft of filmmaking and bring about media that educates, inspires, triggers introspection and builds bridges.
In a British context, Muslims are underrepresented on screen and behind the camera. I hope that through embarking upon this course I can contribute to developing a landscape where our stories can be told and we can be depicted authentically.
