Growing up on Western news media, I have seen firsthand how misinformed and dangerous representations of Muslims and migrants can be. As an MA Journalism student at Goldsmiths, I want to combine my theoretical learning and practical work to pursue journalism that tackles misinformation.
I am a British-Somali Muslim from west London and my interests in journalism are reflective of my identities. My passion for cultural and education journalism allows me to use my interests to respond to important social issues such as gentrification, housing, gender inequality and Islamophobia.
My journalistic aim is to empower underrepresented communities whilst practicing ethically and integrally.
