Humaira Bham
MA INTERNATIONAL JOURNALISM, UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS
Being born in ‘99, world politics, conflict and the media have directly shaped my experience as a visibly Muslim woman.
After graduating in Optometry, I experienced this through my patient interactions and in seeing how the news landscape affected people in their day-to-day interactions. This bred a curiosity which led to me competing in and winning New Voices, Bradford with BBC Radio Leeds. There, I gained hands on experience in Broadcast journalism including appearances on Look North, The One Show and BBC Morning Live.
By taking a master's in international journalism, I will deepen my understanding of international affairs and understand the ethics and technicalities of journalism.
With the combination of skills, knowledge, and credibility I will gain at the University of Leeds, I will be able to give a voice to those who aren’t always represented fairly in the newsroom.
