Mukhtar Moalin

MA FILM MAKING, KINGSTON UNIVERSITY OF LONDON
My name is Mukhtar Moalin. I’m a Drama and Theatre Arts graduate and the founder of Maanta Theatre, a Somali-led company that tells honest, powerful stories rooted in real experiences. My work focuses on themes like identity, migration, and community — particularly within the Somali diaspora — and I’ve always believed in the power of storytelling to bring people together and spark conversation.
Over the past few years, I’ve written and directed several plays, including I Remember, which draws from personal memories of migration, and Between Two Worlds, a co-written piece exploring what it means to live between different cultures. Alongside theatre, I’ve also organised stand-up comedy nights and run community workshops that give space for new voices to be heard.
This September, I’ll be starting a Master’s in Filmmaking at Kingston University, supported by the Aziz Foundation. I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to keep growing as a storyteller through film.
