Rayla Javaid

I am a senior regulatory lawyer with over fifteen years of experience across the public sector, currently working at Ofgem, the UK's energy regulator. My career has been shaped by a commitment to public service and a deep interest in how law can shape fair, transparent, and effective regulation.

I am increasingly drawn to one of the defining challenges of our time: the regulation of artificial intelligence. AI is transforming every sector of society, from energy and finance to healthcare and public services. As AI becomes more powerful and pervasive, the need for robust, principled, and forward-looking regulation becomes ever more urgent.

This conviction has led me to pursue a part-time Master's in Digital AI at King's College London. I want to deepen my understanding of the legal and regulatory implications of AI and to contribute to the development of frameworks that are both innovative and responsible —frameworks that protect the public interest while enabling technological progress.

I am deeply grateful to the Aziz Foundation for its generous support. This scholarship enables me to pursue my academic ambitions and to play a part in shaping the future of AI regulation. I hope to use this knowledge to make a meaningful contribution to public policy and to the responsible governance of emerging technologies.
